Tips for Grooming and Bathing care

If you have a pet, it’s important that you know about grooming and bathing care. Dog grooming refers to both the hygienic care and cleaning of a dog, as well as the process by which dog's physical appearance is enhanced. Bathing and grooming your pet will keep them clean and healthy, as well as you and your home.

Why Groom Your Pet?

Brushing and combing your pet's hair coat is an important part of general pet care. Brushing helps to removing loose hair and preventing hair knots. It improves the blood circulation and keep your dog’s body(Hair) coat in good condition. Brushing also helps to distribute natural skin oils over the skin surface, promoting a shiny coat and helping dirt to slide off the hair and this helps to reduce the need to bath and therefore reduce the frequency of bathing.

Dogs with short coats generally require less brushing and grooming compared to dogs with medium to long haired coats as these longer coats can get tangles, mats and debris trapped in them more easily.

As a general guide:

  • Short-coated dogs - Once every few weeks to remove loose hair.
  • Short, dense furred dogs - Once a week or fortnightly.
  • Long-coated - Brushed on a weekly basis to prevent mats and to remove tangles.

Why Bathe Your Dog?

The most common reason to bath is to remove dirt and an unpleasant odour from their hair coat, thus it is an important part of general pet care. It helps to keep your pet clean and free from dirt and parasites. It also improve the hair coat's shine by removing loose hairs, debris and scale.
